1974 Suzuki RE5 Rotary Unregistered US Import Barn Find Classic Restoration Project
This well-respected, very rare and much sought-after Tax & MOT exempt 1st edition 1974 Suzuki RE5 Rotary has recently been imported from North America where it has spent all its life – the climate is far kinder to motorcycles than ours. This and the fact it's only showing 8804 miles and has been in dry storage for a considerable time have helped maintain its boyish good looks.
As you can see this bike has just a few parts missing – Front r/h reflector, battery & tool kit being the most obvious. It has stood a while, so the paintwork is faded, tyres are perished, master cylinder is not working & much of the chrome is pitted.
This is the actual bike you are bidding on – Not library pictures from 49 years ago & it is every bit as nice as it looks here.....A great find!. The wheels look straight with lightly oxidised alloy rims, good hubs & brake plate, discs & calipers. Forks & yokes look straight but chrome is pitted. Mudguards are both solid. Taillight assy is good as are the headlight & hangers. Instruments & switches look/feel good. Carburettor is free sliding off the twist grip. Paintwork is slightly faded but solid, fuel tank is very clean inside and has just minor dents/marks & scratches in the original paint. Exhausts are original & solid. Seat base is in solid condition throughout. Indicators are all present. Chain guard is solid.
The engine is cosmetically clean, it turns over nicely off the kick starter – sounds/feels great & has compression - We have had it firing/running on easystart spray but the fuel system & carb will need attention......don't fret we didn't run it long.
