1974 Kawasaki KZ400D Unregistered US Import Barn Find Classic Restoration Project
This well-respected, and sought-after Tax & MOT exempt 1974 Kawasaki KZ400D twin has recently been imported from North America where it has spent all its life – the climate is far kinder to motorcycles than ours. This and the fact it's only showing 10114 miles and has been in dry storage for a considerable time have helped maintain its boyish good looks.
As you can see this bike has a few parts missing – Mirrors & tank badges being the most obvious. It has stood a while, so the battery is flat, nonstandard paintwork is faded, tyres are perished & master cylinder is not working. Sadly, the seat cover is punctured & silencers are both holed.
The wheels look straight with nice clean chrome rims, good hubs & brake plate. Forks & yokes look straight with good chrome. Mudguards are both solid. Taillight assy is good as are the headlight & hangers. Instruments & switches look good. Carburettors are free sliding off the twist grip. Seat base is in very good condition throughout. Indicators are tidy. Chain guard is tidy.
The engine is cosmetically clean, it turns over nicely off the kick starter – sounds/feels great & has compression - We have had it firing/running on easystart spray but the fuel system & carbs will need attention......don't fret we didn't run it long.
